Watchdog ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the Watchdog iOS application.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account information: Your email address and display name when you create an account.
- Screen Time data: Watchdog uses Apple's Screen Time APIs (Family Controls, ManagedSettings, DeviceActivity) to monitor app usage against your self-set rules. This data is processed on-device and used solely to enforce your rules and calculate your Watchdog Score.
- Usage and violation data: When you violate a rule you've set, we record the category of violation and duration. This data is used to calculate your daily score and display it to your accountability group.
- Group and social data: Messages you write to your group's shame message pool, group chat messages, and your Watchdog Score are shared with members of groups you voluntarily join.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To enforce the screen time rules you configure
- To calculate and display your daily Watchdog Score
- To show your score and activity to members of your accountability group
- To display shame messages on your block screen when a rule is violated
- To maintain streaks and group leaderboards
- To communicate with you about the app (e.g., launch updates, if you join our waitlist)
3. Screen Time & Family Controls
Watchdog uses Apple's Family Controls entitlement and the DeviceActivity framework to monitor app usage on your device. This requires your explicit authorization. Screen Time data is used solely to enforce your rules and is never sold or shared with advertisers. We do not have access to the specific names of apps you use beyond what you have explicitly configured in your rules.
4. Information Shared With Others
Your Watchdog Score, violation counts, and streak data are visible to members of any group you join. Shame messages you write are visible to the group and may appear on another member's screen. You control which groups you join and may leave at any time.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
5. Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Supabase (PostgreSQL) with row-level security policies. Authentication is handled via Clerk. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Violation and score history is retained to display historical trends. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
7. Children's Privacy
Watchdog is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Rights

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of Watchdog after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
